The gouache and watercolor on paper painting titled “The Landowner” by John Banting is one of the paintings referenced in the intro section of the gallery. It is hard to find information about this painting, but that allows viewers to allow their mind’s eye to flow! The facial expression presented in the form of what appears to be aging wood seems to indicate that although the men who built the house in the background may feel they own the land, nature actually possesses ownership. The barren tree beside and dusty emblazoned sky suggest that while man feels he has ownership, the world may fade. |
