“Fireside Angel” by Max Ernst is an oil on canvas painting that represents “the ruin that fascism brings to countries.” When speaking of the creature in the painting Ernst states, “a kind of clumsy oaf which destroys everything that gets in the way. That was my impression in those days of the things that might happen in the world. And I was right.” Upon discovering the intent of the painting, it can be surmised that the multiple colors of the body of the beast allude to the different countries of the world. The beast, fascism, is still a beast regardless of the color or country involved. |
