Tanguy’s oil on canvas painting “Indefinite Divisibility” places many common objects into the shape of a man and what could be seen as an artist’s drawing board. These concrete objects are shaped into an abstract idea on what appears to be a beach or blueish form of purgatory. The juxtaposition of two forms comprised of multiple objects within an abyss evokes feelings of uncertainty about what the world is really comprised. Is there any difference between our human forms and the objects created by man or is everything simply imagined?
