The use of sharp lines in Eileen Agar’s oil, crayon, and collage on board painting titled “Guardian of Memories” stands in contrast to Dali’s fluidity in “The Persistence of Memory.” Agar said, “I like painting to be as clean as a tennis court.” The sharp lines do favors for the layering contained within the painting. The changing faces layered on top of each other can be seen as a representation that while people may change, their mind will always contain the keys to their past. The subconscious stands as a guardian to what has transpired and what can transpire.
